Aaron Hicks

His journey began in Tennessee, took him to San Diego, then to criminal courts and now, Hicks Law Firm founder Aaron Hicks is helping people throughout Orange County with their personal injury matters.

I handle 100% personal injury matters on the plaintiff side with a majority of my cases involving people who’ve been injured in automobile accidents,” Mr. Hicks said. But his journey began in criminal courts.

Roots in Criminal Defense

When he began his legal career, he worked for a firm that handled criminal defense. This is a huge benefit for his clients because it means he has a calm demeanor in the courtroom and knows how to find facts that escape other attorneys. He spent ten years as a criminal defense attorney spending four or five days a week in the courtroom.

Where other attorneys are unfamiliar with the courtroom and trials, Mr. Hicks is right at home. “I noticed when I first switched over to the civil cases when I would appear in court for my civil cases I felt like the attorneys on the other side were nervous and I didn’t have that because I had been going to court every day in criminal defense,” he said.

In addition, Mr. Hicks spent years representing people accused of DUI-related charges, and when drunk-driving claims come up in auto accident cases he has a unique ability to find information other attorneys aren’t even aware of. Mr. Hicks explained, “I had a case last year where my client’s family member was killed by a driver that was alleged to be drunk and I was able to use some of my knowledge when I was cross-examining to establish that that other driver was in fact above the limit.

Mr. Hicks started working on the personal injury side in 2014 with a practice that also involves premises liability cases such as trip and fall and slip and fall claims. Those can be in grocery stores, department stores or other such locations. “I work with doctors, CEOs, people who work in factories and folks from all walks of life, so it’s pretty special to help such a wide range of people,” he added.

More about Hicks Law Firm

Incoming 2025 OCTLA President

After working at a firm for several years, he opened his own in 2020 and has never looked back. He’s grown both in stature and in his firm’s size. He plans on expanding his team in 2025 to help continue providing top-notch personal injury services throughout Orange County, and he’s about to be named the 2025 president of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA).

I’m one of the older people on the OCTLA board, and what’s great is I’m able to bridge the gap between generations so I’m hopeful my presidency will be really built on a motto of ‘stronger together,’” Mr. Hicks explained.

And his work on behalf of clients continues to demonstrate his skill in getting impressive results for people truly in need. Mr. Hicks has a knack for handling complex wrongful death cases, especially cases involving complex liability matters. While other attorneys might shy away from such issues, he enjoys the challenge and the opportunity to help those who’ve been turned away by other attorneys.

Handling the Tough Cases

I had one case that ended in a great result for my client, it was a pickup truck accident that looked one way when I took the case on, and went in a completely different direction. After the initial accident, there was minimal property damage and the initial ER visit by my client didn’t involve any obvious injuries. This led to a paltry $7,000 offer from the insurance company. However, as they case went along my client started talking about how severe his injuries were which actually progressed over time because that’s how these things go. With the initial policy limits of just $50,000 we settled the case for almost ten times that amount. Now my client can get the medical help he needs,” said Mr. Hicks.

As his career continues, people throughout Orange County can confidentially turn to Aaron Hicks and trust that one of the best personal injury attorneys in the region has their back.
