IRVINE, Calif. — August 18, 2026 — The Irvine Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision involving a pickup truck and a 78-year-old pedestrian at the intersection of Yale Avenue and Meadowood.
According to the Irvine Police Department (IPD), officers responded to the intersection at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026 after receiving reports of a collision involving a Chevrolet pickup truck and a pedestrian.
IPD officers and personnel from the Orange County Fire Authority provided medical assistance at the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
Police identified the pedestrian as Jinshui Li, a 78-year-old Irvine resident.

Preliminary information released by IPD indicates that the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck had stopped while traveling eastbound on Meadowood before proceeding into the intersection at Yale Avenue.
At approximately the same time, Li was walking northbound through an unmarked crosswalk on the east side of the intersection. The pickup truck then collided with him.
Investigators have not yet determined the precise movement or timing of the driver and pedestrian immediately before the collision.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and police have not announced whether speed, impairment, distraction, or any other contributing factor is suspected.
The Irvine Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the collision. MAIT investigators typically examine evidence from serious and fatal crashes to determine how a collision occurred and whether any traffic violations or other circumstances contributed to it.
