Since 1978, Shawn Steel has been at the forefront of a pioneering legal field. He carved out a unique niche by defending alternative medicine practitioners, ultimately establishing a boutique area of law dedicated to safeguarding doctors and advocating for their patients in personal injury cases.
A staunch advocate for the underprivileged, Steel’s most notable achievement was representing the majority of Los Angeles-based families who were victims of the Jonestown Massacre in the historic case of Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ v. The Attorney General of California, No. 746571.
Over the years, Steel has authored more than 40 articles and book chapters on personal injury and alternative medicine law. He is a frequent lecturer, providing doctors in California with re-licensing credits. Since 1991, Steel has been teaching Ethics and Jurisprudence to aspiring doctors at Cleveland Chiropractic College. Additionally, Governor Pete Wilson appointed him to the California Acupuncture Board, where he served for seven years and was elected Chairman for two consecutive years by his peers. Steel has also provided crucial testimony to the legislature on matters affecting patient rights.
