Chad McCabe’s journey began in Bismarck, where he graduated from Bismarck High School in 1987. During his youth, he actively participated in the DeMolay youth organization, leading him to travel extensively and even receive the key to Kansas City, Missouri, from Mayor Richard L. Berkely at the young age of 16. After spending a year working in Los Angeles, he pursued higher education at UND. In 1990, Chad was recognized as the Thomas J. Clifford Outstanding Freshman at UND. He went on to achieve Summa Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration in 1992, boasting an impressive 3.91 GPA. Subsequently, Chad earned a Juris Doctorate of Law from UND School of Law in 1995.
In 1992, during his senior year at the age of 22, he made history by being elected to the Grand Forks City Council, becoming its youngest member ever. His contributions included the creation of the Grand Forks City Flag and instrumental involvement in the construction of the Alerus Center. Following the conclusion of his elected term in 1996, Chad returned to his hometown of Bismarck and embarked on a career as a private investigator, working alongside former FBI agent William Butcher. It was during this tenure that he began his journey as an associate attorney under the guidance of attorney Ralph A. Vinje in December 1996. During his time at the Vinje Law Firm from 1996 to 2007, Chad specialized in various aspects of criminal law, earning a notable reputation in the field of DUI law.
